Christmas for the Orphans of Esther’s Hope – Your Gift Makes All the Difference
Every child looks forward to Christmas morning. Even those living in extreme poverty. Like your children and grandchildren, the orphans and abandoned children at Victorious Faith Refuge Home, find it hard to go to sleep on Christmas Eve. The kind of Christmas morning they have depends on us…on a “Christmas Blessing” from Esther’s Hope. That’s why, each year we take up a special “Christmas Blessing” offering.
Unless you’ve been there, it’s difficult to comprehend the unending struggle of life in the west African nation of Liberia. Unemployment and illiteracy top 80%. The lingering effects of past corrupt dictators and devastating civil war make Liberia a very somber place. And, yet, the children are hopeful.
The thirty children of Esther’s Hope are looking forward to Christmas. Our Christmas Blessing (above and beyond our normal, monthly support) enables Bishop Gombay to stock up on food staples, provide a special Christmas meal with extraordinary delicacies – like a little fruit and some candy. It might even mean new shoes or some needed item of clothing for the children and, if funds allow, Bishop Gombay likes to give a small gift to the caregivers, as well.
Their joyful Christmas celebration – the special meal, the simple gifts – are made possible by people half a world away who generously give to Esther’s Hope.
As you prepare for your own family’s Christmas celebration, please consider how you might be a blessing to the less fortunate in Liberia. The children have so little, they don’t expect much. The little we send brings them great joy. Just look at the photo from their Christmas celebration last year. No expensive gifts, but plenty of smiles.
Even a few dollars makes a huge difference in the lives of these precious children. Your donation is tax-deductible and every penny we receive for the children’s Christmas Blessing goes to them. We never deduct “administrative costs” for any Esther’s Hope donations.
Donations can easily be made online by clicking the “Donate” button. You could also send a check by mail to Esther’s Hope, 219 State Street, Algoma, WI, 54201.
If you’d like to be a part of the Esther’s Hope Christmas Blessing, act quickly because funds will be transferred to Liberia around December 20th.
Please, help us spread the word and share this website with your friends.
If you’d like to be a blessing year round, an Esther’s Hope Child Sponsorship is only $30 a month. Check out our Sponsor A Child page. All contributions to Esther’s Hope are tax-deductible. Giving is very easy – simply click on our Donate button.
Pastor Andrew Is Coming to America
Wonderful news! As I write this post, Pastor Andrew Gombay is en-route to America! He was invited to participate as a representative from Liberia in the African American World Deliverance Conference taking place July 3rd to the 12th in South field, MI (in the Detroit area). The organization that invited him is also paying his trip expenses.
I’ve known about his plan to come to America for a couple of weeks but I’ve not posted about it, because I wanted to make sure he was going to be able to work through the bureaucratic red-tape to get his visa and travel arrangements made on such short notice. By the grace of God, all things came together. He should be arriving in the next day or two.
Our ability to learn the details about his trip has been hindered by the normal deficiencies of our U.S.-to-Liberia communication connections, so I’m not sure of what his schedule will be. I do believe he will be in the U.S. for a month and we will do our best to bring him to Wisconsin. South Field, MI is close to eight hours driving time from here.
Keep checking back. I will post more information as soon as it is available.
Please pray for this to be a safe and fruitful trip for Pastor Andrew. Also pray for his family, the children of Esther’s Hope and the caregivers in Liberia while he’s in the States.

Prayer Requests from Pastor Andrew
I recently received email from Pastor Andrew Gombay. He is the founder and leader of Victorious Faith Ministries church, Victorious Faith Academy and Victorious Faith Refuge Home (the home of the children of Esther’s Hope) in Monrovia, Liberia. Pastor Andrew is a capable man of faith and vision doing remarkable work in the most difficult of situations. His email asked for our prayers.
God bless you Rev. Pevlor,
Please Sir continue to keep us in you prayers; as a church, we have decleared the entire month of February as a month of Fasting, Prayer, and Breathrough. The entire church is going through a 28 days fast and prayer day and night, we started on Monday.
Here is my prayer point; having realised that every other area of ministry is picking up through the grace of God and my influence, the church congregation is fast improving every week, but there is this area that I feel bound and that is financially. I want you to please pray with me that the Lord set me free from every financial bondage, so that work will continue by His in Christ Jesus.
Another prayer point is that I am receiving spiritual signals to establish a stronghold of faith in nearby Sierra Leone before this year ends. But I’m trusting the Lord for the funds to start the work there. Already the Lord is opening doors of evangelism there at the moment.
May the Lord help us through this spiritual path in Jesus name.

Pastor Andrew Names His Son – Jonathan Bill Gombay
Dear Friends,
This is a follow-up from the birth announcement of a few days ago. I received this email from Pastor Andrew this morning…
Dear Rev. Pevlor,
By the grace of God we’ve prayerfully decided to name our newly born son after you.
I’m joining our names as double anointing to name this child. This is because of your wise counsel, and devoted prayers that hastened the defeat of the devil over my family a couple of months back. (The devil meant it for evil but the good Lord has turned it into a good testimony for me)
So I’m using my middle name (Jonathan) and your first name Bill, which name’ him as Jonathan Bill Gombay. In short they call him J.B.
Rev. Pevlor, this is my own way of keeping your memories of the kind of Christ-like love that have gushed out of your life for me, my family, and the ministry that the Lord has committed in my hands in my generation. (Christ demonstrated his love towards us by laying down His life for us.)
God bless you Sir, and please keep us in your prayers.
Pastor Andrew
Here’s is my reply…
Dear Pastor Andrew,
I am deeply honored by your gesture and overwhelmed beyond words by the sentiment behind it. I will join my faith with yours, believing for a double anointing to flow though the life of Jonathan Bill Gombay! To God be the glory!
The “kind, Christ-like love” you mentioned that gushes from here to your family and the ministry there is love emanating from the Father – flowing, not from just my heart, but from many hearts here that God has stirred on your behalf. Along with love, God has stirred our own faith by witnessing the faith you exhibit as you persist with joy in the most difficult of situations
What a mighty God we serve! He can bring together two totally different groups of people from opposite ends of the earth who only share one peculiarity – a love for Jesus – and use each group, in different ways, to better the lives of the other. Amazing! I am grateful that on our separate journeys to fulfill God’s purposes, He saw fit to have our paths cross.
Our prayers are with you all. Give your charming wife, Swenah, a big hug for us and a kiss to all your precious children.
I will be calling you before the end of next week.
Blessings,
Pastor Bill
I will be calling him by week’s end to give him details of our next Western Union transfer. (It will be a big one.)
Because I’m the contact Pastor Andrew has with the help he’s receiving, naturally he most closely associates the blessing with me. I would like to give him a sense of the bigger picture – of the many people who are a part of Esther’s Hope. If you have any words of encouragement or congratulations that you would like to personally express to Pastor Andrew, his family or the children of the refuge home, simply send them by email and I will be happy to forward them on in a few days. I’m sure he and Swenah would be blessed to know you are praying for them or how their example has encouraged you.
A New Bouncing Baby Gombay Boy!
Dear Friends,
Not a lot of news to share in this update – but BIG NEWS, none the less.
Here’s an email I received Tuesday night from Pastor Andrew.
Dear Rev. Pevlor,
Praise the Lord, my wife has delivered of a bouncing baby boy few hours ago. I just brought them home and they are all well by the grace of God.
Thanks very much for your prayers and support in Jesus name.
Pastor Andrew.
We’ve been waiting for the news of a healthy birth. Hospital care is considerably different in Liberia. Within a few hours, mothers are back home.
I was able to reach Pastor Andrew this morning to wish he and Swennah our personal congratulations, but the connection was poor so we didn’t talk of much else. Even with a poor phone connection it wasn’t hard to hear the joy and pride in his voice.
All is well there with his family, the church and the children of the refuge home.
We will be sending our next transfer of funds around the 20th of this month. I will try and talk more with him then.
